Zine Not DeadHosts Brad Rohloff (Bred Press) & Matt Davis (Perfectly Acceptable Press) have been the champions of the alt-comic world and Zine Not Dead is their quarterly showcase of Chicago’s best comic artists. Julia Shapiro of Chastity Beltwith Ulna and Izzy True
Zorked (adj.) – what happens when you end up thunderbaked, as in extremely stoned–or in any situation where you feel not sober. You can feel so tired you’re zorked. In fact, any state, so long as you’re a little out of it, qualifies. And Julia Shapiro, of Chastity Belt, Childbirth, and Who Is She?—much like everyone on this earth with a pulse—was zorked on more than one occasion in 2020. In March, she packed up her things and traded Seattle’s late-winter gloom for the perennial sunshine and seemingly endless opportunity of Los Angeles only to be forced into near-total isolation. With nowhere to go and nothing to do, she began working on her second solo album, ‘Zorked,’ On the resulting batch of songs, we’re given Julia’s vision of Los Angeles: a wasteland melting in slow-motion, a place to commune with ghosts and warped legacies.

Minor Moon & Wilder MakerMINOR MOON
Minor Moon’s Sam Cantor writes resonant journeys into songs. Across three albums culminating in Tethers (out March 26, 2021), the Chicago-based musician has mined the pastoral and rollicking sounds of cosmic country for contemplative and thrilling songwriting, conjuring up engaging Neil Young grooves, eye-opening atmospherics, and a healthy amount of Midwestern twang.
Ask singer-songwriter Gabriel Birnbaum what inspired Male Models – the diverse new album from New York band Wilder Maker – and he’ll mention everything from American novelist James Salter and the NBA playoffs to Thin Lizzy and the delicate tightrope of positive masculinity. These reference points might sound arbitrary to the uninitiated listener, but together they provide some insight into the creation of an album that somehow succeeds at being both an apocalyptic novel of ideas and the most cohesive party playlist that you’ve ever heard.
We currently host the following weekly activities:
Monday nights — Community Dance with Lucky Plush
Tuesday nights — Anthony Meindl’s Actor’s Workshop
Friday nights — Ethnic Dance Chicago
Sunday mornings — Embodied Movement
Please note: Color Club’s 100-year-old building requires stairs to access the second floor ballroom and classroom. We are working on improvements to remedy this! The tavern on the first floor is accessible via the corner entrance at Hamlin and Elston.
