RHINO FESTThe event that became the Rhinoceros Theater Festival began in 1988 as an offshoot of the Bucktown Arts Fest, and in its first year featured just two days of performances. When the event’s founder moved away from Chicago in 1990, he asked a ragtag group of local artists to keep the festival going, and the Rhino Fest was born.
The Curious Theatre Branch went on to produce Rhino Fest across many neighborhoods and venues. In the mid-2000s, Rhino Fest settled at Prop Thtr in Avondale as its long-term base, and Prop and Curious co-produced the festival among a shifting group of curators for many years. Following the closure of Prop’s Elston Ave. space in 2020, and a year off during the height of the pandemic, Rhino Fest is once again itinerant, and in 2023 producing at Chicago Dramatists, Facility Theater, Labyrinth Arts, and Color Club.

Lucky Cloud [solo], Dead Gowns [solo], Quinn TsanDead Gowns is the project of Portland-Maine singer-songwriter Geneviève Beaudoin. In her latest collection, the HOW EP, she pushes “expressive arrangements and raw melodies into a glowing spectacle” (Foxy Digitalis). Both urgent and sincere, it’s “the sound of a songwriter coming good on all her promises and then some” (For the Rabbits).
Lucky Cloud is the songwriting outlet of Chicago-based musician Chet Zenor. Known for his work as a guitarist, he has been involved in Chicago’s independent music scene for the past several years while performing with artists that include Max Subar, Minor Moon, Sarah Weddle, Waltzer, Henry True, Lyn Rye, among others, as well as co-leading the instrumental avant country/jazz trio Alta Vista. While recording a soon-to-be released LP in 2020, Lucky Cloud was fleshed out to include close friends and frequent collaborators Max Subar on pedal steel and electric guitar, Jason Ashworth on bass, and Spencer Tweedy on drums.
